Francisco Joaquim Bethencourt da Silva wanted this facade to express security. Inside, his 1906 neoclassical beauty surrounds a stunning column-lined rotunda lighted by a glass dome. Bronze grill work in the ancient fish-scale pattern kept deposits safe.
